vehicle speed sensor V70

Post by seasider »

Hi

1999 v70 2.5lit 10v 5speed automatic non turbo 265k miles (UK vehicle)

Keep getting fault code p0500 - vehicle speed sensor "A"

Anyone had this before ? or know where its located ? is it a big job to replace it if its faulty ?

The auto transmission changes up and down quite smooth considering how many miles its done and the engine is good

I would think it's the same on mine as yours...rear most part of the transmission on the upper part, located closest to the driver's side...check the wires to it and connection and if they're good you may be in for a new one.

Is it possible for the connections to be loose. Is the vehicle speed sensor a part that intermittently brakes down or does it go all at once. Would I be driving around for 2mo with mostly good behaved car and here and there messing up. oh when the mileage goes to dashes in the speedometer does not register for some reason the brake light also was on with that collaboration ,I turn the car off wait a few minutes turn it back on and drive away fine. Is this indicative of a speed sensor crapping the bed or a loose connection

that is indicative of a failing ABS module
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

That would be the passenger side for the OP
