To me the driver's seat side bolster looks in amazing condition, surprised to hear it has 130k miles. Surely mostly highway or PO was a butterfly.

We hate it here because if your value to society is flipping stuff you are a non-contributing zero - and most people here do good work.

One thing you can do to keep flippers honest - insist on a title transfer from the the actual seller, not the person they bought from. This means the price has to be registered and taxed twice (where applicable) which erodes the margin. Many of them try to avoid the tax which catches up with them eventually.

Don't get me wrong.
I agree, title flipping does not contribute to society but no one is forcing anyone to buy the overpriced item.
Victimization stinks. The interim buyer isn't using his capital for the betterment of mankind etc. I get that.
Hopefully the word will get out in the Volvo community and he'll be blackballed.
It'd be cool if he had to dump the car and take a loss!

But deep down...don't you wish you thought of the "Pet Rock"?

The fair market value is the price at which the property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or to sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts.
Hey , what do you know about victimization? You’re from freaking New Jersey......

I would postulate the guy is full well expecting somebody to come along and talk the price down to $9 or $10. At a glance it looks like it might be worth that (if there's nothing wrong with it and maintenance is current). Remember our cars tend to be undervalued. Because Volvo owners tend to hold on to the (majority) of good ones, aside from off lease/3-4 year old trades from people who get new every few, 2nd+ Volvo owners tend to keep them. Typical used ones that go through the auction and show up at dealer lots tend to have/had some major issue, collision, or have crazy high miles for the model year.

Here's a good case example to drive the point home:
There was an old guy in my friends condo building in Chicago. His flippin-friggin beautiful ass '11 or '12 black S80 was parked in the condo garage. Last couple years his health deteriorated and he drove it very little. Even so he continued to baby his pride and joy- every few days he'd still come down and clean off the dust/start it up/keep it looking pristine. I initially noticed that he wasn't keeping the dust off it anymore and asked my friend if he knew anything (If he can't drive anymore maybe he might part with it???) Friend asked around, turns out the old guy had passed. Word through other building residents who knew him was that the family was FIGHTING over who was going to get that car. Somebody resorted to putting a sign in the window "DON'T TOUCH IT!" The building front desk/entry staff said that sign wasn't directed at other residents or building management, it was directed toward some of the relatives at the behest of the executor to the will.
That one did NOT end up going through the auction/on a car lot. I never had the privilege of sitting or riding in that one. I looked in the window once, it was exceptional and *loaded*. It disappeared about a month or so ago. Every time I walk past that empty spot now I shed a little tear...oh the beauty is gone :(

Edit: A truly magnificent S80 once called that home. I'll miss that one.
