Fuel pump or relay?

Post by wlkstout »

Our 98 v70's gas gauge was broke when we got it and had been on my list to fix. Fast forward we have been using the trip odometer and filled it around 200 miles, 10-12 gals. So it was ran to 300 miles today when I got in it to take the wife to work, she usually drives it daily, started and warmed up for a couple minutes in the driveway. Was heading out and it died 2 blocks from the house. No real surging, was stopped at a stop sign and it just stalled out. Thinking it was out of gas I ran and got some but it won't start.

I do not hear any noise/hum from the fuel tank area, at the inspection plate or below it. I tried cranking it 2 or 3 times before adding fuel and 3 or 4 times since.

Fuel pump? Is where I'm leaning. Headed to junk yard to see if they have one. Was going to grab a relay or 2 while I'm there also. Will order a new one but just need it to work today if possible, as noone has them in stock locally.
Thanks Walker

So I just put a volt meter on the fuel pump and at key on and cranking it is receiving voltage. Guessing not the relay and the pump died when it ran out of gas this morning. Shucks. 182,000 on it and it was the original. O well.

Look into the classified section of this forum.

I listed a few items for sales: brand-new Bosch fuel pump, air filter, oil filter etc.
Let me know if you want to buy them. FREE shipping in the US.

Also, do not ever let gas tank go below 1/8 at any time.

That's not metric, that's agnostic.

Are you doing exclusively city driving? I'm going 400 miles on 14-16 gallons, you're getting less than 16mpg if 300 miles to empty. Glad you got it back on the road for cheap.
