'97 850R Stalling Issue

Thought I would try running this past the collective wisdom of MVS before I say uncle and get a tow to a shop.

My '97 950R is stalling if I don't keep the RPMs around 1200 or higher. I also have to give it gas when starting or it barely shows any signs of combustion. If I do keep my foot on the gas and keep the idle up, it runs just dandy. Doesn't throw any codes.

I did a quick check for loose or damaged vacuum lines and everything seems ok initially (I actually just checked and replaced almost all of them last summer). As I'm typing this, I realize I didn't check the ones that run to the canister, so I may do that later. I also tried swapping out the MAF with another that I was good when I last tried it, and there was no effect. No effect when running with the MAF unplugged, either (well, save for throwing a low MAF voltage code... so I guess I lied - it will throw that one code, but I assume I know why!

Any ideas? Fuel pressure regulator? Or TPS maybe?

Check the fuel pump relay in the fuse box rear section under the hood. There are threads on her to tell you how to fit a jumper wire to bypass it for testing purposes. If it turns out to be that, then use a Volvo only part and not a KAE unless you want the problem back. Even a junkyard one should be good enough to compare.

Thanks for the suggestion. I could hear the fuel pump priming when I turned the key, but I jumped it anyway to test. Didn't have an effect.

Pull apart the idle Air control valve and see how dirty it is.

You need To remove all vacuum lines to check for breaks, this bit me last month.

Throttle body clean?

What are age on plugs, wires, cap, rotor?

This symptom is usually caused by a vacuum leak. Dirty IAC is a good thought. Did you check the PITA hose to the vacuum nipple on the intake manifold passenger side? But that usually gives a p0172. Try the starting fluid trick to ID vacuum leaks, including around the intake manifold.
