1998 S70 T5 Headlight Glass

I tried the search with little result on this...
So i just got hold of this 98 S70 t5 Manual (see my other thread) and about the only issue it has (aside from a not so tight ebrake) is that one of the headlights glass has a hole in it. the volvo tech who inspected the car said the glass from volvo can run a couple hundred bucks... plus labor if install is needed...WOW is this true? I looked online and saw some NON volvo alternatives i might look into, can anyone tell me if they are worth it or stick with volvos? also, can someone with limited vehicle repair skills like myself complete the glass swap ? I am technically inclined, just not with Cars ha ha

Also, if someone can point me to good source for the recommended parts. this is my first Volvo, ill need to get some good recommendations on parts sources online for future use.

I don't know a good source but I've heard of many buying even from eBay with good results. If you're just swapping the glass it's not too hard. There are clips on the front (but the whole light assembly has to come out) that unclips and from what I understand the new glass piece just clips in. Sometimes the clips (or maybe the right word is clamps) is hard to budge and you have to watch out that in unclasping the glass or snapping the piece back on you don't actually break the glass. Hope others chime in.

Thanks MIJ...Ill see if others do chime in, it wont pass inspection here in Massachusetts if the inspection station does notice the hole, so i want to be ready, with that said, the vehicle was just inspected by seller for sticker before sale and it passed

CarVolvo here on the board sells DOT approved lenses at a decent price. Since the Looney is at an all time high against the dollar I don't know how competitive he is but if it is close he is a great contributor.

I got a new after market glass lens for a 1995 850 from ebay and then quickly resold it on ebay a few weeks later. The problem was, that this was a drivers side lense, but there was a harsh beam of light coming out going straight in to on coming drivers eyes. No... the light did not need to be re aimed. I think the lens was for a British car where they drive on the wrong side of the road. I compared the new lens and my old cracked lens, and you could see the way the glass was molded how light is scattered and directed. I have noticed that the passenger lens lets light go out to the right and up in the air which makes it easy to read road signs. I figure... on a British car, the same thing would happen on the left side of the car. So.. I sold it. I was never asked why I was selling it. I got a used pitted lens that works fine. So.. BEWARE! Ohhh... the plastic trim just pulls off the bottom of the lens area, and then you just use a screwdriver to carefully pry the clips off. Its easy. DON'T TOUCH THE SILVER INSIDE THE LIGHTS. It comes off very easy. Ask me how I know?

ok so the entire headlight assembly needs to come out to get this glass swapped off? or can it be done while on the vehicle?

No... you just pop off the clips, remove the glass and put new glass on and re-install clips. On a 850 you have to pop out the lower plastic trim piece... not sure on yours

I had same issue a few years back--a hole in the headlight lens on the passenger side. I can't recall the exact mail order place, something like volvoautoparts.com. (I went with the cheapest.) Anyway, it came with glass and new gasket. You do not need to purchase a new headlight assembly. It was easy to pop out the entire assembly. I remember the turn signal assembly has to come out or at least be loosened. The quality of the glass appeared good to me and equal to OEM.
