Friends 2008 3.2L FWD with 122K.
Complained of some transmission issues so I did a 12L fill/dump for them. Didn't really notice any hard shifts or flares but it was very dirty w/o being burnt.
Complaint was in reverse and although I felt no hard clunk or such I do understand the vibration felt through the vehicle they must be concerned about. Way more pronounced in reverse and mild in drive...smooth as butter in P and N.
Please note this vibration is felt with foot on brake and not moving. Not while underway.
While in reverse It's got a noise to it to like the sump pump in the basement is running pretty hard! Nothing in P and N.
Are we talking any common transmission or engine mount that might be causing this?

Vibration in reverse or drive when car is not moving?
Vibration noted in reverse or drive when car is moving? If vibration is noted on moving, does it change as a function of wheel speed or engine speed?
The sump pump sound in reverse, car is moving or not moving?

Seems like the mounts, open the hood and then put car in D and put another foot on the brake, have some one observe ( from the side- not standing facing the car for safety) when you rev up; does the engine tilt? Put in Reverse and do the same test. If the engine is tilting/rocking then it is the hydraulic motor mounts. You may also check the lower engine mount near the crank shaft pulley.

Thanks. Is there a particular mount that controls the rotational energy vs just the mounts in the pan? I've had many a V70/XC70 that I'm sure pan mounts were long over due but never felt such a vibration while I also know there are several mounts that that were obviously related to the rotational energy, cheap and easy to replace...just not seeing such on this engine, yet.ashvolvo wrote: ↑27 Apr 2018, 14:02 Seems like the mounts, open the hood and then put car in D and put another foot on the brake, have some one observe ( from the side- not standing facing the car for safety) when you rev up; does the engine tilt?
