I'm looking for a used car for my wife and were on a bit of a budget. She currently has a 1998 S70 GLT which has been having all sorts of issues that I can't keep up with anymore.
I found a 2006 S40 2.4i for sale locally. BUT, it has 191,000 miles for $3200. I haven't seen the car in person, but the pictures make it look pretty good. The seller claims recently services, new brakes, newish tires, newish timing belt, and all maintenance records.
Should I steer clear of this vehicle?
Anything to look for specifically if I go see the car?
Thanks!

3200 seems pretty high for the baseline 2.4i, with 190xxx on the clock. i'd get a confirmation on the timing belt, "newish" might mean they did the service late? timing belt is supposed to happen at 120xxx i think.
3200 still seems way high. i saw a 2005 s40 t5 with 170xxx selling for 2700. if i were you, i would way lowball the seller. i've been looking at a lot of v50s and s40s lately, i think you can get something way better for your money. i'm currently looking at a v50 t5 with 98xxx for about 3800. not much more than the s40 you're looking at, and half the miles. they're out there somewhere!

Thanks for the reply. It ended up being sold anyways... Cars around here are typically more expensive than other parts of the country by 20% I'd guess. Also slim pickings, which also drives up the price.benpineapple wrote: ↑27 Apr 2018, 07:43 3200 seems pretty high for the baseline 2.4i, with 190xxx on the clock. i'd get a confirmation on the timing belt, "newish" might mean they did the service late? timing belt is supposed to happen at 120xxx i think.
