1999 V70T5M Oil Cooler and seals 30637339 (Biscuit style on rear/RHS of engine

Post by abscate »

I have some oil seeping from my cooler on the T5 and want to replace the seals

Part numbers

Volvo Oil Cooler Seal - Genuine Volvo 30637339 Qty 2

Torque on 4 fasteners 17Nm or 12 ftlbs

Im wondering if I have to drain the oil to do this to avoid a mess - Alldata does not specifiy, just says to check oil level at end.

I would suggest yes due to the level of the thermostat in relation to the lowest point on the oil pan.

Looking at Vida, it talks about clamping the cooler water hoses, but then goes on to talk about catching the oil that leaks out along with coolant. It then tells you to check the levels of both coolant and oil after repair.

You don’t need to clamp the hoses but oil pan needs to be empty. Did this job today, will document in one of these threads

Looks like something I'll be doing in someone's driveway in the near future. I almost wonder if that is my intermittent oil leak that I occasionally smell. I may just do this as a stage 0 as it is so cheap and relatively easy.

20 minutes of work (ideally) is my guestimate.

Yeah, it’s quickie Mop, I’ll find my shot of the tools so that it’s a single fat guy roll under the car and we don’t scare the children. The local school has told the kids not to go near My house anymore after hearing my language on the intercooler hose.

I noticed the new Orings sticker way up compared to the old ones, you can see it in the picture too. You do have to be a bit careful they stay in place by keeping pressure on the bíscuit forward until you have a torx in

I love my Bosch driver on its lowest torque setting for setting in hand started screws

Never closed loop on this one.

There is a good pic here in p2 showing why the oil cooler removal does not drain the sump

I used a few little blobs of moly grease around the rings to hold them in the grooves while I assembled the cooler to the sump. They stayed.
