- put a 19mm piece of tape over the light

- Wait for my next Jersey run and I can try the AUTEL on it. Should work

Hi,

I have been using the service light as a warm up timer for winter time. I let it idle for 2 minutes :-)
Tape is a good idea actually. So simple.
What is AUTEL?
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

OBD code reader with some software I can reset SRS lights with it, so it might do the service light, too,

The drive cycle for 98 X70 series cars is truly a PITA. Fortunately many states allow for 1 or 2 monitors to be in a not ready state and still pass as long as the check engine light is not illuminated.

From another post about NJ inspections: "For anyone who is reading this thread here is some updates and solid information.

NJ DMV Inspection center allow 1 not ready reading if your car is year model 2001&up. (Except the catalytic system).
If its older than 2001 then you can have 2 not ready reading. again except the catalytic system."

This is similar to the Maryland requirements where I live. Volvo cars are well known to have difficulties completing their drive cycles. I recently passed with one monitor in the not ready state. Good luck.

Hi,

Yes, last time i passed with 1 monitor not ready but it is allowed 2 (1998 v70).
I think it was that vacuum thing cant remember the name of it now. That's the only thing that doesnt like to get ready on this car, it'a a true PITA. Lucky they allow that one to pass.

Evaporative or EVAP monitor. All the others will go ready in 50 miles or so unless there is a fault

On a P2 the evacuum controlled evap system was ditched for a pump system which is much more robust

It’s a 1992 design so figure the late 80s for when Engineering was busy. One of the reasons I love European designs is that they run them so much longer than US and Asian brands so you get cool Fora people like us. The only bad place to get stuck is inthe bastard years at the end of a cycle....🤪

My car resembles that remark - being the build date was in December.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
