I have had stalling and hesitation issues for the past couple of months as described else where on the site
I bought a bosch MAF sensor for my car from Erie Volvo they said it was from an 1998 v70 with 70k . I pluged it in and the car would not work. I unplugged it and the car started and ran. When i plugged it back in stalled immediately.
I put the old one back in.
What is the problem. Should I replace the throttle position sensor with a rebuild kit of get a new one. Can I solder the Fuel pump relay like you can on the 740s and 940s I have done that. Do I need a Cam sensor ?
The code is P103 also I disabled the evap system several years ago because i didnt want to deal with replacing the pump.
Hope you all can help
thanks Henryd

99.999 % likelihood Erie sent you a bad MAF. Which is very unusual. Did you check if they sent you the right part number?
As far as whether or not the MAF is the reason for the ongoing stalling and hesitation I can't say, I don't know the back history.

they have checked and they say they sent the wrong part. Thanks for responding. The back story is I am having increasing issues with hesitation and have had the car cut off twice now. I have disconnected the evap emmsions system because the pump was bad the car has 215k and I have driven it 60k of that.

Im guessing you disconnected something else. These cars will code if the EVAP cycle does not complete succesfully.HenryD wrote: ↑30 Apr 2018, 10:58 they have checked and they say they sent the wrong part. Thanks for responding. Much does point to the MAF. If you drive it around with the MAF unplugged, does it still have hesitation issues? You can drive it a couple days, even a couple weeks with the MAF unplugged. It will throw a p0103 and run rich but that's about it. Not a long term solution, but no worries for a short time.
A disconnected air pump is not causing the described symptoms, unless as suggested there is actually something else disconnected. Look for stray hose ends.

when I have problems starting the car I disconnect the MAF sensor and it will start and run. If I plug the MAF back in the car dies right away. If I wait a little maybe a minute or two I can plug it back in and run fine again. I took a 500 mile trip this weekend and using premium and driving at 70 mph I got 26.9mph with the sensor plugged in no problem for the trip down. The car started 3 times this weekend and was running rough each time. Started it to drive home was rough but once I got on the road no problem. It died 3 hours later at the gas station and I could not start it without pulling the connector off. It would not run plugged in until a few minutes of driving and then it ran the next 120 miles no problem plugged in.
thanks for your help.
