Hi,

Let me introduce myself.
Wesley (24) from the Netherlands, bought a Volvo V70 2003 Automatic 2.4 140 BHP 2 years ago.
Was very happy with the Volvo and hoped I bought a reliable car.

Well now the problem, lets start with the beginning.

Bought the Volvo V70 with 180 K km. Within 5 K km I got an LPG installation (BRC Premium with Valve Saver)
With 210 K km it got the message "Slow down or Shift up", I tried reading it out, it said P0301 (misfire cylinder 1).
Replaced the plugs and coils.

Still receiving the message in Cylinder 1. Then changed the injectors and the problem moved to cylinder 4 (the cylinder that got the injector from cylinder 1). You would say problem solved..... Came back to replace the injectors. With reading the problems again i now got the P0305 misfire cylinder 5. Replaced the injectors and still running badly and got the error again.

Now we did the compressiontest:

Cyl 1: 10,5 - 11 B
Cyl 2: 10,5 - 11 B
Cyl 3: 10,5 - 11 B
Cyl 4: 10,5 - 11 B
Cyl 5: 4 - 4,5 B

This cant be good. Can you guys help me with this, can there be another problem beside the burned valves or damaged cylinder/piston?

Can i make sure it is a burned valve? and can someone help me with a instruction on how to remove/replace this? (the revision will be done by someone else).

The car is using alot of oil aswell (dealer put in 10W40 instead of the normally used 5W30 for this engine).

Thanks in advance!

Could be stick rings on #5.

1. Pull spark plug from #5.
2. Rotate engine clockwise, as viewed from the front of engine, until #5 is on a compression stroke and near top dead center.
3. Flood #5 cylinder with Sea Foam. ( Cylinder not the Well )
4. Stuff a rag in the top part of #5 spark plug well.
5. Let it sit overnight, periodicity top off Sea Foam.
6. Turn over engine to push out Sea Foam.
7. Reinstall spark plug and coil pack.
8. Start engine and high idle until black smoke quits.
9. Drive car work the engine hard until it no longer blows black smoke.
10. Retest compression on #5.

If the compression improves, it was a stuck ring.
If the compression does not improve, the test is inconclusive.

In fact, if the compression rings are stuck, you will probably notice the SeamFoam (or equivalent) will drain from the cylinder in a matter of seconds or minutes. I think on an engine with free moving rings, the liquid should stay there quite longer.

Not impossible a stuck ring, may have to do with failed PCV box causing sludge inside the piston ring groove (see Youtube for testing). 210K is quite late for a PCV, I'd like to have it replaced no latter than 120K km

- Do compression tests: BOTH dry and wet.
- Hopefully this is not a burned valve...

Thanks for the options. Can you help me with an instruction on how to remove the cylinderhead (in case the cylinderhead is broken)?

Thank!

Robert spinner does a lot of this stuff, here's part 1, mostly caution comments before starting the job.

Thanks, will watch!

Yesterday morning the engine light didn't came on, idling was way smoother than before and power came back.

Unfortunately the problems started again yesterday afternoon.

- At 120K miles (200K km) it is a bit early for burned valves.

- Google "Cylinder Soak" and give it a try. Then redo the compression tests.
