Dash rattle

Post by mab1970 »

I have a 2015 xc70 and have a rattle in the dash (source is on the passenger side). I have done everything I can think of to get rid of it. It happens with even the smallest bump or vibration in the road surface. All it takes to eliminate it is to push the dash toward the windshield and it easily goes away. I have tried pushing some high density foam insulation into the gap between the dash and windshield as an experiment and it does eliminate it, but I need a long term, proper solution. It sounds like there is simply something loose. Any suggestions are very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Interesting that I have a similar rattle on my 2003 which would be a different design. Maybe look around the center speaker, but at some point there is nothing we can do without taking the dash entirely out

Hi mab1970,

I had a very similar rattle, and did all the same things as you...

In the end I tracked it down to a big clip/slot that the dash rests in right near the base of the windscreen, having a tiny bit of play

I had the glovebox out at the time to replace the cabin filter and shone a torch up in the area. I pushed a piece of foam sponge into the clip/slot and it’s been silent for 4 months now!

Hope that helps,

Nick
