yea its why im tempted to just attempt the $39($31 +$8 core fee) one fromt he junkyard.. they got a 99 s70 , alot ive read said there is a high chance it works(assuming the etm is good int he first place) my goal is in a few months to just get a new one from xemodex and be done with this because this is seriously the only issue this car has. Yea this car has 186k miles on it and i think its the original etm tho i dont have the full service history

On the second line of the ETM you will see a date code which will tell you if its original hardware..something like

00W39 - 2000 YEAR, week 39

If the label is white, you probably have the original - WELL DONE!

We had a discussion if the one from FCP (under $500) would work without software upgrades - Mike was sure it would but FCP hedged on it when I pushed them.

so semi related question which i think might be the reason its not starting now as opposed to the etm which may or may not be dying but looking at it today it is a yellow label unit so it was replaced at some point. Right now it will crank, start, then stall 1-2 second later. The only code that was showing is the P1670 code which i read is related to the security. Any ideas? would the attend ring being bad cause it to start then die after 1 second? tried both keys but neither work.

After you have the stall out, does it just crank without firing?

Yeah, that’s the failure of the key to properly synch with the immobiliser
