2007 s80 v8 harsh shifting

Post by goldmandan »

It's been a while since I've posted. Been enjoying our V70's without incidents. NOW, I purchased a 2007 s80 v8 which is an impressive car with it's awd and v8 set up. it really goes like a bat out of hell and is very comfortable BUT. the shift flares and bumping is very annoying. I have drained/filled transmission 2 times already and used transgo and lucas transmission additive to help prevent/stop hard shifting with no luck. I have contemplated to remove the transmission as the rear main is leaking and thus replacing the trans but I believe someone told me these transmissions (TF80SC) are pretty robust so I am wondering if I simply take the valve body out, clean it in solvent and blow it out with compressed air, replace solenoids with new ones will this fix my problem?
and, how easy is it to get to the solenoid cover and remove it?

I'd go the solenoids or valve body route - not sure which are needed so better search on forums although the information is rather scarce on these tf80. I've read some of them did fail so they are not that robust.

As for the solenoids, careful buying these from an Ebay seller, it's a jungle out there with several showing pictures of Rostra (for example) and shipping knockoffs. Better buy them from an official distributor

Ramman Valve bodies, reamman.com, should be able to help.
Are you sure it is rear main seal? Power steering pump leaks are very common and run out through the bell housing drip hole.

I got the valvebody rebuilt and now the shifting is perfect again! VERY happy!!!
I have another issue though, when I put the car in drive it seems to want to launch as soon as I let go the gas the car launches forward. strange! Could this be a bad motor mount??

Do you feel like there is an engagement delay when putting it in D? I had this after replacing the solenoids, I would move the lever in D then the transmission would engage with a 2 seconds delay plus it would kick with force (and a bang) upon engagement and the car would jump forward. Had to reset the adaptations with Vida then perform the garage shiftings. See here http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showthrea ... alkthrough

Remember the adaptation works until the engine is switched off. Try also to launch the car several times with some acceleration from a standing point, to adjust the shifting for the first gears. The shiftings after this adaptation reset may be less good than before doing it, but the engagement in D should work fine again.
