Radiator expansion tank

Post by Multiskilled »

Hi my radiator expansion tank has a hair line crack in it somewhere and a small amount of water is laying on the outside seem. I've seen a meyle one on eBay but it looks as though it doesn't come with the senser , is it possible to reuse my old one and are the meyle bottles any good

Get only the OEM one. Otherwise, the tank will not last long.

OEM tank (we know the price sucks). I reused my sensor after confirming it worked. Just be careful removing and unplugging the sensor.

+1 sensor can be re-used, and as stated, careful with extraction of the old one.

If it was a Honda Civic with a non pressurized expansion tank it'd be fine to go off brand. But the constant pressure can break cheap ones. I learned this on a land Rover...

Has anyone noticed a change in the colour of the water in the tank when it's cracked , mine has gone from red to a clear charcoal colour since I noticed the leak. Engine runs spot on ,temp gauge stays at quarter past, no sign of oil in water or water in oil do you think it's connected in some way

Red?
Your coolant should look Volvo OEM blue. What kind of coolant do you have in there?

Should probably flush the cooling system and replace with Volvo coolant when you do the expansion tank. Good time to do all the hoses as well.
