Still no cooling fan...now what?

Post by carboncow »

Had a buddy's car for a month now. No cooling fan amount several other errors listed on Vida/Dice including no work DIM...several errors related to throttle pot and brake signal.

Since my experience with P2 coolings fans is the module fails in a way that caused 100% on 24/7 and not NO fan I went the ECM route due to several other errors and the DIM that appears to have 0% signal (although I know they tend to fail it's usually just a couple of things from my experience).

We have reflashed a ECM (didn't do it) and tested cooling fan with known good new (and used) cooling fan and nothing.

What are my next steps...can I test the signal wire in some way?
I'm beginning to think there is a major wiring concern sadly like his last P2. I have little to know skills for tracking down 101 wire issues, so I might be sending this one back.

Ideas?

Find the wiring diagram for his year make model, post up the cooling fan part, and we will have a go.

Yep, its never the ECU...

Sadly, I went for the ECU/ECM because off all the side symptoms and a recommendation from another forum that it sounded like ECM!

Not having much luck on wiring diagrams for the cooling system. Does Vida-Dice have this info embedded there, somewhere?

They probably think ‘Forums’ is a thing too

Cooling fan for the ecm box?
You can just hotwire it to any switched power source .
Test fuse #8 in the engine compartment?

Thermostat sensor...it maybe that it's not sensing the temperature at top radiatior hose on engine... when the car was below about 32degrees ambient....it wouldn't start.... or maybe relay/ module ... the other thing is that when Volvo's have low voltage ..weak battery or weak alternators... they give you weird values... Id check that first

So you are saying just to power it from any switch when the car is running for 24/7 fan?

Are we talking the purpose sense wire is the "on" trigger as the two heavy wires to the module are power...but not sure what makes them turn on.

EDIT: All fuses are 100%

Not overly helpful as the fan should turn on 100% any time the AC is engaged irregardless of water temp. One can (and I did) simulate a trigger for the thermostat sensor by simply disconnecting the clip.

As far as weak power...such items were easily tested by including a charger on the circuit when doing all Vida/Dice tests to make sure voltage is over 13v+.

OK, so I came up with with document that is for 2003 (xc70/x90) and NOT 2002 but it's full of stuff that I'm not sure which part is helpful to the discussion. I couldn't find anything pertaining to "cooling circuit" and since I'm concerned the issue is something a little larger maybe the section on front control module is helpful??!?

I am having the same problems with my 2004 S60 2.5T AWD stage 2 AWD. New factory fan installed, Volvo dealership could turn it on but does not turn on when air conditioner is turned on. It's my baby and I would appreciate some insight.
