Just bumped into this old thread, was curious to see how existential it would get.

Put simply, owning and driving, even an older model Volvo is an enjoyable experience and quite addictive. I have 3 vehicles currently and my V40 is probably the least essential nowadays, however I cannot bring myself to part with her.
The forum offers both technical advice and many interesting related topics which helps me to minimise her running and maintenance costs.

Long story short- This site has been a life saver. I have so many stories about Volvo repairs that I have been able to diagnose & complete that never would have been possible without this site:) I’m 62 and never owned a full set of wrenches until 10 years ago.

I found MVS in 2013 when we had just retired our 1999 T5 from kid duty due to multiple problems. I had done little under the hood other than oil changes, but put about 3k into the car refreshing

HVAC
ETM
Full suspension on all corners

from 2013 (130k miles) to end 2018 (now at 220k miles) thats maintenance costs of something like 3 cents per mile for an awesome comfortable and fast ride.

The almost singular nature of the grownups here on MVS is a real gem for a car forum.

My wife loves old Volvo's, I love my wife... err umm... I love old Volvo's?

Well I just bought our 4th 850 Estate since I met her 4 years ago so I guess I'm addicted.

I've been a mechanic for 3 years (had to learn how to fix them somehow) so I hope to bring some "professional input" although my knowledge is "cars in general" not Volvo specific.
