Vacuum to turbo. Waste gate?

Post by mrjay62 »

Hi Everyone..

DO OVER,!

I Need help! I was out driving Highway Speed 75,80 when all of a sudden I lost some power not much but noticeable. 10 mins later Check engine light still driving ok just a litter less responsive. Anyways got home pull a code of P0236 turbo solenoid the one mounted on the side of the filter box. 1st things 1st , Checked the 2 line for leaks plugged the ends and applied Pressure 20 lbs. ALL GOOD.
RED HOSE NOT CLUE WHERE IT GOES. AIR /VACUUM PASSES THU DOESN'T MATTER IF CAR IS RUNNING OR NOT. YELLOW ON THE ACTUATOR THAT OPERATES SMOOTHLY. BLUE IS CONNECTED TO THE DUCT WORK.
FORGIVE IF MY TERMINOLOGY OF THESE PARTS ARE OFF..
So My Question Does Anyone know if I should be able to apply pressure or vacuum to the (Red hose) So far it doesn't matter if the car is running or not, air passes thu with No restrictions

The three hoses on the turbo solenoid don't go that CBV pictured above. That device gets intake manifold vacuum to quickly pull the turbo off on throttle closing.

I don't remember of the Boost Control Solenoid is normally closed or open with voltage removed, but the boost is controlled by shutting OFF the pressure to the wastage and letting the spring close it, not my opening it with pressure. A very Good Friend of mine got this wrong for years..

Ok your Right my dumb ass jumped the gun ...

I released all the clamps straps and wiring harness out the way,Now...
I can Now trace the red marked hose to below the turbo under the duct work... After its lost to me mirrors flashlight , nothing seen from underneath. Any clue where it should be connected?
V70 xc AWD. No room to see anything back there...
Do you know if there should be vacuum on the line at idle? Right now air flows freely in and out running or not...

Thanks absate...

Hello Again..

While hanging around Checking everything for leaks I thought I check the four Check Valves in front of me....
All but one is working... Now my question is Are They Going in the Right direction? .

As I understand the current state of your repairs is you are wondering where the red banded hose goes. Correct?

From the diagrams I am pulling up it appears to go to the turbowaste compressor nipple (actual aluminum housing)- not the turbo wastegate (diaphragm) nipple which would be the yellow line on the diagram I am looking at.

Look at the bottom of your hood - it should have a diagram of hose routing on a sticker.

Red hose - pressure feed from the turbo cage - it connects under the CBV (not wastegate)

Yellow - wastegate actuator - the solenoid allows pressure to go this hose which overcomes the spring opening the wastegate, and allows boost to rise

Blue - when not boosting, it recirculates the pressure not being used by yellow hose back to the elephant hose upstream of the turbo to keep the metered air constant.

Thanks guys....

Ok I did find the Red labeled hose on the bottom of turbo. My question is if I apply Pressure or Vacuum should it Hold?
I know the hose is good... but air flows thu freely.
The Yellow does operate the wastegate actuator with little pressure and seem smooth.
Also Is the CBV Diaphragm Should hold some vacuum if not I can assume that's n/g.?
So hard to get to these hoses! Grrrr

Thanks again..

I believe the boost control solenoid is Normally open, Red to blue

Normally closed, from red to yellow

Watch these pages for the gurus to correct me, though.

If the CBV doesn't hold vacuum, its Kaput, Correct.
