Driver Door Electronics

Post by Soupsamich »

Hello, new to Volvos and this site.

I have an issue with the driver door electronics. The control panel on the drivers door will operate all other doors and lock with the exception of the drivers door. The key will unlock all other doors except the drivers door. Even though the light lights up for the drivers mirror for control, it only will control the passenger door. Another has a very short description of this exact problem and the only fix they could find was to take it to the dealer and have them reprogram. I'm hoping that there is another fix out there.

Thanks for your help ahead of time,

I would verify the ground connection to the DDM (Driver Door Module) is good before going to the dealer for reprogramming. There's a common ground point both the door lock and mirror motors run to. It's under the carpet just inside the door bolted to the floor under the side edge of the seat.
One might expect both the logic (mirror selection LED) and functionality to disappear with this ground connection, but the diagrams available don't show a full pinout of the DDM connector so I can't rule out the idea that the low current logic circuitry might be electrically isolated through another ground wire back through the harness to somewhere else perhaps to safeguard against inteference/integrity of data on the CANBUS or prevent false alarm system triggers. If that doesn't get you anywhere then you'll probably need help from a hands on technician either at a dealer or euro/volvo import specialist.

Have you tried hooking it up to VIDA? Software programming may work, but it may need a new module.

Me I would try the VIDA route, then if nothing try the wiring and then see how cheap a used module from a like year and model costs on Craigslist. Generally if the module is bad a like for like swap from another XC90 does not require programming. Do a little research so you know your options if you go to the dealer.

Any chance it's the wiring in the door? Not exactly your problem below but might be beneficial to have a closer look- http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread ... r-Stays-On

Agree it could be the wiring. Check for water intrusion. Thinking about it some more - I believe there is a motor for the unlock portion, separate from the module. As it is just one door - that means the module is sending at least 3/4 of the correct signals If you have the door car out try testing the look motor (or solenoid). I would imagine it is just two wires and you can power it directly. Otherwise maybe a mechanical cable or rod fell off. A little inspection with a VOM would be a good route to eliminate items.
