I’ve had an FEQ RF axle in my basement for a month and finally took it to work today and one of my techs installed it. Been working on the car most of my waking moments not spent at work the past ten days and it was binding worse and worse so just needed to have it done.
Test drive after install was great. Commute home was great for like 15ish minutes, but it didn’t take a lot of 50-70mph driving to start binding and now it’s at least as bad as the one it replaced.
Going to take the original to a rebuilder tomorrow and hope they can turn it around quick.
I didn’t have high expectations, would have been happy with a year out of the thing then I’d cough up the 600 or whatever for OEM, but 20 minutes of driving?
Maybe it was the install but I doubt it. Gonna under there tonight after the kids go to bed, thanks FEQ.

Hmm. That sucks. I have two new FEQ axles in mine... so I'll be sure to report back if they act up. They've both been good for over 1000 miles of driving so far.
Almost impossible to get good axles for these cars now.

You are kinda on Robert's immediate travel path, he may find you one between OKC and Memphis (not listed on Row 52!) if you contact him.

Erie has a good (non-reman) OE unit it looks like gonna order today.
In hind sight it seems what these RF axles do NOT like is sudden braking at high speeds. Maybe because they are so long the opposing torque from each end just eats them up.
So once this one’s in I’ll be hanging back at a more consistent speed in stop and go driving as much as I can and see if that extends the service life.

You can stop and go all day long, all year long on the factory axles. Used one from the junkyard (Erie, etc) is the only way to go.

Re-man parts or even aftermarket new are a crap shoot. I fitted an FEQ LH axle to an 850 base about 2 years ago. Drove from here to California to drop it off at my brothers for my niece. Car is still running on that axle.
Like everyone says, my preference is to use OE and re-build myself with new boots from OEM or Volvo.
Was it a LH or RH axle you had fitted?
Neil.

RH, left axle is fine
Boots were fine, it was binding under hard acceleration or braking. I think it was the inner joint

You're probably aware but just a reminder, a 98 axle won't fit in a 99 ...
