What is the volvo part number for this stupid bulb?
I've been desperately trying to find these bulbs. The dealership wants $11 each and every car I find in the junkyard has the electronic climate control and this bulb is for the manual climate control. I can't swallow the $11 each for these bulbs unless I absolutely have to. Can anyone help me with a part number or know where I can get these? This is for a 98 S70.

Hm, that looks larger than the bulbs used in the switches. If you can remove one of the switches in the dash and check if they are the same. If so I can give you a company that sells the bulb portion only. They are easy to swap over, and all you have to be is careful to carefully remove the blue cover and transfer.
Still not cheap but these are on Ebay.com:
https://www.ebay.com/p/Volvo-Electronic ... 1122292408
I am assuming the part number is 9166336.
Neil.

The Ebay link is for electronic climate control bulbs and this is for the manual climate control bulbs. They're different and they don't interchange.
I guess I didn't look close enough at those bulbs because at Second Glance those appear to be the right ones. I appreciate your help

That is volvo part number 9166336.
The ECC bulb is: 9454848 and is a much longer bulb. Well the bulb itself is probably the same but the socket is much longer on the 9454848.
Please note that if you look on FCPEuro, you can find part number 9166336 but it cross references with the ECC bulb number of 9454848.
I had a email chat with them and they said their records show both part numbers as being appropriate for the MCC but I do not believe that is true. They don't have a picture of the bulb so I don't know which one you'd get if you ordered that part number from them.
I tried to use the longer bulb and it literally doesn't fit. The MCC control unit isn't deep enough for the longer 9454848.
Since europarts is a sponsor here I'll link to the parts:
The MCC one you want (9166336) : https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/56902/ ... BJEALw_wcB
The ECC bulb you don't want (9454848): https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/88625/ ... x6EALw_wcB
I'm posting both links so people can see the dramatic difference in the length of the bulbs.
The bad news is you can see the cost isn't much different online.
Another issue is it seems as if the contacts of the bulb itself is soldered/welded to the base of the socket so replacement of just the bulb isn't trivial. I mean it should be doable but it might take some working so that the socket isn't damaged as there isn't a lot of working room around the socket base.

I don;t have MCC to investigate but that looks very similar to a radio bulb. Those can be had for $0.65 each.
Part number 560-CNW123, http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/JKL ... d9foUA4%3d
I'd pull one from the radio, see if it works, and if so buy a handful.

Erik, I don't think that is the right one. The bulb looks shorter in the picture when you enter that part number on the Mouser website.
The link I gave had the price a lot lower, but as I linked to it from Canada, you may find it is cheaper on the 'Additional Costs' when shipping withing the US. There may be other options out there too at lower prices.

Those are tubular wedge base bulbs.
The size is determined by the diameter of the glass tube in 1/8".
1/8" = T1 wedge
3/16" = T1.5 wedge
7/32" = T1.75 wedge
2/8" = T2 wedge
3/8" = T3 wedge
4/8" = T4 wedge
5/8" = T5 wedge
....... etc.
You can get bulk packs of then dirt cheap on eBay. You might want to replace all the bulbs at the same time to insure even intensity.
Once you figure out the "T Size" you could get LED replacements.
I replaced all the T bulbs in my '98 C70 with green 5050 led T based Neo Wedge. It has been a couple of years but I think all the bulbs for the '98 Volvo 70s series are T3 and T5.

CNW123 is T1 size and a lower wattage. Those look like size T1.25 or T1.5. The ebay link says 12v 1.2w. CNW123 is 0.5W
What he needs is likely to be either DNW1-DW10 or ENW80-EW10/GRA/16mm.

You'll have to measure your original bulbs to know, and compare to the data sheets. If the new bulbs are a mm or two too short, that's ok. Correct amperage/wattage is the more critical aspect (0.1A) they'll work fine. Just be aware the blue silicone filter covers on your original bulbs need to be transferred to the new ones otherwise the climate buttons will be too bright and the wrong color.
You want to stick with bulbs from JKL, they have a long lifespan (10,000 hours or more). Other suppliers' bulbs I've looked at have a life of a third of that or less. 10k hours * AVG 45mi/hr = 450,000 miles or it's unlikely you'll ever need to change them again.
