Trying to reset maintenance reminder

From IPD's website (https://www.ipdusa.com/blogs/103/howto- ... 009-volvos) I get the following procedure to reset the "Time for Scheduled Maintenance" indication for my 2006 V70.

2002-2007 All Volvo Models
  • The service reminder indicator lamp illuminates for 120 seconds when the ignition is first switched on
  • Insert key and turn Ignition Switch to position I
  • Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
  • Turn the Ignition switch to position II (within 2 seconds)
  • Hold the reset button for the trip meter pressed in until the original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed
    (For all vehicles 2003- a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released.)
  • Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded
  • If the trip meter is already reset the reset button should be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.
  • If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.
However, I cannot seem to make it work. What could I be doing wrong. Is there another way?

Too many steps
From Volvo...
Resetting Volvo service light P2s
KEY IN IGNITION, TURN TO 1ST POSITION
HOLD DOWN TRIP RESET BUTTON (DO NO LET GO)
TURN KEY TO 2ND POSITION DO NOT LET GO OF THE TRIP BUTTON
AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS THE ORANGE TRIANGLE SHOULD FLASH
LET GO OF THE RESET BUTTON AND PRESS ONCE

1. Press and hold the odometer reset button while turning the ignition to the run position, or key position labeled "II" on the steering column without starting the vehicle. Continue to hold the reset button about 5 seconds until the orange triangle (!) flashes.

2. Done. Start your Volvo and leave for wherever you didn't want to go before changing the oil -or- get out of the way so your significant other, who is getting impatient, can finally leave to go shopping.

It looks wordy in type but if you have somebody read it to you I doubt anyone would be confused what to do, or why the S.O. is looking irritated.

On mine it's 5 seconds.
You can tell some technical engineer wrote some of these various instructions. It's so simple!
Somehow they manage to make it look confusing with 5 (or 9!?) steps that in type looks ridiculously complicated.
Honestly. If somebody has to be told they need to insert the key into the ignition before being able to turn it to KPII I'm not sure they should be sitting in the drivers seat. Much less messing around under the hood.

Put my old writing skills for broadcast advertising media to the test. I've also been involved with producing a number of training and safety videos for a pneumatic tool manufacturer: 'clear, conversational, concise'...
Scripts for such projects have to be cleared by and sometimes rewritten by legal, mind you. This is just a service reminder reset.

I don't think this is very hard...I do it with several of our Volvo's now... I don't even wait to insert key...I just push the odometer reset button and keep holding it down before inserting key, then turn the key to position II...wait for the yellow triangle to start blinking and then let go of the odometer button....works every time!

trying to reset maintenance reminder 2008 v70....ridiculously difficult. never works. had it work one time. only dealer seems to be able to do. We've had this car for over 5 years and I've only been able to do it once..always have at least one tenth of a mile on T2 then follow the first instructions on this forum. I haven't been successful in the 2 years since. Again-ridiculous.

I can’t put my key intoned ignition because it’s in my pocket and the procedure doesn’t advise on that. Jim, can You help please?
