bogging and no power between 1000 and 2000 rpm's. 2000 Volvo

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

bogging and no power between 1000 and 2000 rpm's. 2000 Volvo

Post by quadsport »

I was wondering if anyone could pinpoint the problem. My car boggs and has no power between 1000 and 2000 RPM's. After a few seconds it eventually gets power again, but I don't know why? I thought it was the fuel filter so I had that changed, but it still does it. The car only has 84,000 miles and I've had alot of problems. Please help if youcan

Sounds like it could be the ETM....Have you had it checked. I think your car has one of them...and if so, it's under warranty for the first 10 years or 200K miles.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm hoping once this problem is solved I have good luck with my volvo. I love the car, but I've had it in the shop quite a bit. Also, I go through alot of bulbs for my brake and headlights! Does anyone have the same problem? What is an Etm anyways? Thanks again. I'll call my mechanic today

ETM = Electronic Throttle Module. From '99 on through '01 and on some '02 cars they switched from a wire that pulls the throttle to a computer that senses your foot pressure on the accelerator and adjusts air/fuel mixture. On the particular models (years above) a Fiat company called Magnetta Marreli built the ETM which was found later to be defective. It's under warranty if you have one.

If it's under warranty then the Volvo dealer will be the only one that can deal with it. Check here first www.vexedvolvo.org If your car fits the ones with this, insist that the dealer deal with your ETM and not just clean your throttle body and charge you for it. If it's truly the ETM, it WILL fail at some point and your miles are such that I'm surprised it already hasn't. I should add that Volvo will probably try a software upgrade first if it's truly the ETM...and the upgrade for many people have solved the problem, so if they offer it, go for it.

Thanks for all the great information. I can't seem to go on that web site you gave me. I'll try again after work. I did bring my car in for some type of software uprgrade for some recall. I don't know if the two are to are related or not. You've been a great help and I appreciate it. I'm going to call the dealership that did the upgrade and see if they can help me. Thanks again.

Another question is bulbs. My volvo seems to eat headlight and breaklight bulbs! It may be the mileage and a coincidense that they are all burning out one after another; I'm not sure. Anyway, thanks foir all your information!

A bulb eating Volvo...some seem to do it and others don't. If they're right after another and not the same ones twice or three times in a row, I wouldn't worry about it. I checked the link I provided to make sure it works.
