Fuel pump relay or fuel pump? 99 s70 t5

Fuel pump relay or fuel pump? 99 s70 t5

I just bought the whole replacement kit that comes from FCP for the fuel pump assembly. I just replaced the relay and now the car is running fine. Do I bother so replace the fuel pump now since car is running fine. Maybe just hold on to the kit for a while before I send it back in case the pump goes? The guy on the phone said that the relay probably went because the pump caused it to and eventually the pump will need to be replaced, but then again I don't think I have ever replaced the relay, so why couldn't it just be the relay and nothing else? Thoughts?

I wouldn't replace the fuel pump if it works fine now.

Fuel pump relays work hard for a living. If the pump works fine and isn't noisy, send the pump back like Clemens suggests.

The question is, "How loud should the fuel pump be?" I can definitely hear it running from the rear of the car.

With engine running...you shouldn't hear it,unless it is a performance pump or on it's way out...or you're low on fuel.

Many of the aftermarket pumps are loud and can be heard from the cabin when the engine is running. By itself that doesn't tell you much unless you know it is a A Bosch pump, those are pretty quiet on the other hand.

send it back, unless you know where the low fuel light is on your car.

I had intermittent issues with no start that were a fuel pump relay and/or a plugged fuel filter. When the filter was disassembled there was no noticeable buildup. You can bypass the relay temporarily for troubleshooting purposes but I wouldn't drive it daily like that.

161k on orig. fuel pump. ~135k on that previous fuel pump relay.
