I'va had this annoying squeaking noise for a while now (high pitch, rotational).
I recently got it checked and it turned out to be a front drivers side CV boot that is squeaking. The boot got taken off and axle rotated which made the noise disappear, so they replaced the boot but the noise is still persistent. Its not there when it's cold outside but is really noticable when its warm (like +17 Celsius) and when driving up to 60 km/h.
I tried lubricating the boot with silicone spray but it made no difference.
The noise is really driving me crazy.. Any ideas on what to do?

Re: Volvo S80 V8 2008 CV boot squeaking?
I would look at the wheel bearing. I just went through a failing wheel bearing on my XC90. All of the testing by myself and then by two mechanics said the wheel bearing was fine. I changed everything, and I mean everything. Motor mounts, shocks, struts, transmission, CV axles, front differential, rear differential, 4 new tires, alignment and front drive shaft CV and repack of the rest. The noise was still there so I had them replace my wheel bearings and the noise is now gone.

The boot rotates with the axle, not sure it could squeak. My guess would be bearing.

Thanks fo the replies. But would a wheel bearing make a rubbery squeak? It only squeaks when driving forwards (or when the wheel is lifted up and rotated forwards by hand).

True. I'm gonna get the wheel bearing replaced on monday. I discovered that the squeak changes pitch when turning wheel while driving (when i turn right, the pitch gets higher and louder, when i turn left, it get quieter). So i guess it really is the bearing.

Re: Volvo S80 V8 2008 CV boot squeaking?
I have not yet seen a bearing squeak, but the dust plate behind the wheel hub can get bent and make noise while driving.
If going for the bearing, before removing the bearing bolts, with the axle and all brakes out, turn the bearing plate by hand to see if it's good or bad, it should be quite smooth if it's good, a little bit of roughness is acceptable.
I'm also thinking serpentine belt (some pulley being about to seize it's making the belt slip on it)

Any roughness is not acceptable, that`s a sure sign of needing replacement. A lighty loaded bearing will squeal when dry. The driveshaft bearing in my old 240 squealed so bad it would draw the attention of pedestrians.
Re: Volvo S80 V8 2008 CV boot squeaking?
Definetly not the belt as my car is 1. LHD and 2. squeaking noise starts with the vehicle rolling + i also got all the pulleys and belt replaced couple of months ago.
I'd also like to point out that when i lifted up the front wheel and rotated it, there was some resistant alongside with that rubbery-squeaky-sound. Did the same on the opposite side and there was no resistanse nor any noise.
