S40 stalling - fuel filter?

Post by matthew1 »

I'm posting this on behalf of Carmen. This is the source.

I posted just recently about my Volvo s40 2005, in regards to an fuel filter. If my car can be replace with a new fuel filter. I am in URGENT need of some answers I bought this car from a man who took my money $5.800 and failed to tell me that the vehicle was in two prior accidents, needless to say I found out by the DMV that the vehicle was not his to sell because the paperwork between the man I bought it from and the person who sold it to him was incomplete. Another thing when I paid off the car 10 months later, I get the pick slip with the date posted on the pick slip was the day I put $4.100 dollars as a payment. This man took my money and sold me a vehicle that I have been having problems with. The vehicle is all that I have as a single mom who travels to do residential housekeeping I bust my butt for someone to take full advantage of my kindness and to make my payments on time. I’m so upset. So can someone help me with answering my question about my fuel filter quickly. I would greatly appreciate you and your time.

Hi Carmen, sorry to hear about your S40 troubles. We need some information from you...

The car is stalling? If so, when? When it's just started, or when the car is warmed up? Both? While it's moving or when it's at a traffic light.

Any other details please add them.

First off- sorry for your troubles!! 2nd generation S40's (P1's) shipped to the U.S. have fuel filters located in the gas tank and it's not Serviceable replace them. Fuel pumps have a screen and apparently that's the extent of replacing any kind of filter on these cars which would require the gas tank to be dropped. That said, the "fuel filter" would not seem to be the issue here. I'm not sure what it is, and as Matthew asked, we need more info. The fuel pressure regulator located on the engine in the engine bay is often the culprit for non-starts and jerky operation if that's what the problem is (along with the fuel filter relay). Please post back with more info.

I emailed her a week ago to ask if she needed help, no reply. Well, we tried, right?

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I'm not sure, but I think this is a good place to ask my question.

I own a Volvo S40 2006 1.6 Diesel (I live in Brussels, Belgium) and I changed my fuel filter. I'm not very technical but I'm learning :-) Problem is that my Volvo doesn't start any more. We tried an idea we found online (putting air in the fueltank so the fuel would be pushed to the filter (and the air pushed out) but it doesn't seem to work ... instead fuel (Diesel) is leaking out of the car when we try this.

Tomorrow we go at it again and we're going to remove the new fuel filter and install it again.

Do any of you have experience with this problem?

Thanks,

Kim

Hi and welcome

I'm afraid Volvo didn't sell diesel engines here in North America (unfortunately), so I think you may be better asking on an European forum such as http://volvoforums.org.uk/ For other non engine related issues, be welcome to ask us anything

Here there...MDK here. I read your post and I would take the car to an all foreign repair shop and have them scan it and they may even give you a print out. If the people sold you a lemon it's not your fault. I've actually taken cars back and get a refund and a different vehicle.A good repair shop should be able to figure out what is up. Take care.. hope this helps
