Cruise Control - P0564 OBD code

Post by Stonedraider88 »

Dear all,

I have been using your guidance for the past 2 years and it has been great! Always found the answer and never had to ask for help. However this time it is something that I cannot find here.

My issue is that the CC is not working at all, it was fine and then one day not working.

To explain in a little more detail: The CC buttons do not respond at all, they even have no background lighting at all. CEL did not come on and when scanning with OBD the P0564 code comes up. All the buttons on the right side of the wheel have background lighting and function as intended.

Do not know where to start looking and could not find any info on the forums.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Sounds like a defective steering wheel module.
The P0564, excess heat and no CC are all point to a defective SWM.

Thanks Rick,

Today the right side also worked intermittently, so volume controls, back and forward. Strange that they seem to work fine after the engine is shut down and restarted.

I also think that my SAS module is on its way out. Today the ABS light came on, and then after shutting the engine and restarting, it was fine again.

Should I be looking at the SAS module as the culprit or somewhere else?

Also, I presume that both of these fixes are DIY'able? I searched a bunch on the internet and found some tutorials. Seems doable. However if there is anyone who has VIDA instructions here and could post them or PM me, that would be great.

I will be buying the parts here in russia, I've been quoted prices 200 USD for the SWM and 120 USD for the SAS. Seems reasonable. Will attempt the repairs on sunday.

Thanks in advance!

Strange that they seem to work fine after the engine is shut down and restarted.

Universal method for a software reboot. Sounds like hardware errors or something else is creating a unstable condition in the software environment.

Be aware, Software must be downloaded to the Steering Angle Sensor Module (SAS) for vehicles from and including model year 2005 if the vehicle is equipped with DSTC (Dynamic Stability & Traction Control).

For 2005- vehicles, without DSTC, software does not have to be downloaded to the SAS.

From what I gather a new OEM SAS comes with the software for a non-DSTC. To install it in a DSTC equipped car you need to change the software.

Software:
SAS without DSTC Volvo part number 9438286
SAS with DSTC, Volvo part number 9438417

Note! Software must be downloaded to the Steering wheel module (SWM) for vehicles up to and including model year 2004.

However if there is anyone who has VIDA instructions.

You can download VIDA and use it a a service manual without DiCE hardware. The VIDA 2014D RePack is out of Russia and contains both English and Russian language packs.

If you translate the Russian language instruction file in the root directory of the 2014D RePack to English, I would like to see the translation. When I ran it through a translator it produced some real weird phrases. One phrase recommended using Silicic acid .. :?
