issue with front right motor mount fitment Topic is solved

Hi Folks.

I'm towards the end of my subframe replacement on my 1999 s70.
Today I put the new (from a 1998 s70 ) frame into my car and ran into an issue with the front right (passenger side) motor mount.

First some back ground.
I am replacing the subframe due to it getting bent after a brush with a curb.
When I took the damaged subframe out of my car I noticed two things.
1) the frame was indeed damaged
2) The motor mount was 100% broken. See below.

I took the mount off the 1998 and compared it . I could not detect any difference in the mount compared to the broken one off my 1999. The one from the 98 looked fine so I felt good about the using it.

I finally got my frame in and as I was snugging up the bolts, my son said "What about that motor mount?"

Oh right.. Where is it..
I lowered the frame a bit, bolted on the replacement motor mount and then ran into this issue when I lowered the engine back onto the frame.

You'll notice that the bolt holes don't even line up at all.

This is with all the weight on the frame and the frame bolted to the body.
The 4 corners of the frame line up with the body just fine.
The front motor is resting where it should and if I look up through the frame, I can see the threads of the motor mount hole just fine. It's aligned fine.
The steering rack bolts lined up (mostly) with the frame and I had to move the rack just a hair to get the bolts through.

I can't understand why this passenger side motor mount doesn't line up.
I even put the broken mount in it's place and it lines up in the same incorrect fashion.

I've just looked on FCP and their mounts say they are good for all s70s up to chassis number 566268. Mine is higher than that.

I can't find any mount on FCP for s70s with a higher chassis number.

I don't even think the broken mount would fit right. I haven't tried swapping it in with the weight all the way on frame. Maybe it would line up but I don't think so. It got to be late and I had to call it a night. I"ll check the old mount for fitment in the morning.

Has anyone run into this kind of fitment issue with a right hand side motor mount?

If anyone reading the above is thinking "if he has the busted part that was on his 1999, why the heck doesn't he just look at it and read off the part number?"

If you were thinking that... well... that was a good idea because it's right there on the part. I can't believe how dense I am sometimes...

But it is interesting. It lists it like this
9480189 white
9470544 blue
9470547 orange.

No idea what the last two mean but the 9480189 seems to be a valid part and on some sites, it is listed as for chassis AFTER 566268 which is what I need. And.. no aftermarket.. Nice. full Volvo price for this one.

I've just looked on FCP and their mounts say they are good for all s70s up to chassis number 566268. Mine is higher than that.

The '98 and '99 are after 566268 OR The '98 is before 566268 and the '99 is after 566268?

Yeah, that's the problem.
my car: 599XXX
donor car: 512552

So it's looking like most of the ones on FCP are actually NOT for my 1999 s70 (599XXX)

However FCP does indeed stock part number 9480189 but they claim it doesn't fit my car even though that part does mention s70.
FCP doesn't use a VIN to locate parts in since my last posting I have found some parts places that do use VINs and they all point to part 9480189 for my car.

I feel a bit better now.. I'm bummed I couldn't finish this job today but I'm glad the issue is due to me trying to use an incorrect part and not because of anything I damaged or did wrong.

Hum .... FCP Euro has them for $128.00 ... $102 more then. the older version.

From what I can see the two bolt holes where move 1/4 -1/2" to one side.

Volvo lists 4 different part numbers for the RH crank pulley mount you are mentioning. As Rich has mentioned there is a a chassis break in terms of chassis #. There is also an Alternate #1 and Alternate # 2.

I know there are at least 2 variations I have seen. Some of the variation is based on the 4 bolt and 2 bolts control arm sub-frames.

Firstly have you got the mount the correct way around (I am sure you have but have to ask). You do have the locating pin located in the bottom of the mount into the hole in the sub-frame?

Looking at the picture you have there is no way that the mount you have is likely to fit.

From Vida the part numbers you have above are described as:

#9480189 - S70 chassis 565001 - (Alternate 2)

#9470544 - Can't find a reference for this even as a superceded number.

#9470547 - Again cannot find this part number. Maybe the part numbers have been superceded that I have to these?

#8631698 - S70 chassis -565000 - (Alternate 2)

# 8631702 - S70 chassis -565000 - (Alternate 1)

# 9480191 - S70 chassis 565001 - (Alternate 1)

No idea what Alter 1 and 2 are. Maybe those are the 2 and 4 bolt control arm options or even AWD?

Convertibles and Coupes have different pads (2 door cars).

Are the mounting plates on the engine the same on both cars? Can't recall if it can be removed and swapped over?

Got something off FCP Euro. Don't know what to make of it but its a clue.

Did you use suspension off the '98 or transfer the suspension from the '99?

Ambler..if you don’t have VIDA put those two VIN into Volvo parts lisle site and see what that recommends.

A cross reference to an unrelated part like a rotor size is always risk as who knows what mods have been made to your car

I just put the old/broken part back on. It fits fine. So it looks like part number 9480189 is the right one for my 99 chassis 599061 with two wheel drive and 11 inch rotors.
