2008 Volvo C70 Hard Top Convertible Stuck Half Way

Post by wackenhut »

Hi,

I opened the convertible top and stopped it half way down in order to inspect everything and then noticed that the trunk started falling down and now resting against the back window and the system is stuck. I am getting two messages: top unlocked and top malfunction see manual.

Because the top is fully extended, I do not want to drive to the dealer in this condition and wondering if anyone has any experience closing the roof. The mechanic mentioned that if I had two people lift the trunk part up again while i press the button to close the roof, this should work.

The only issue is that because I am getting the two messages, the system is not letting me do anything. Is there a way to reset this so I can make an attempt to close the roof?

Any suggestions from people who have been in this situation would be great!!

Thank you.

Love the car, but unfortunately there is no way to resolve this on your own. I had to resort to bringing the car to the dealership and it took 2 technicians and a couple hours to close manually. Learned a lesson that because the hydraulic cylinders have aged, the top can not be stopped half way. Let me know if you have better luck!

The Hydro release cable is not under the rear seat in 2011 C70. Pulled the seat out had two friends to assist with roof but no cable.
I cant not find any document that tells the location of this cable.
If anyone knows cable location please chime in.

Update -I found an experienced retired Volvo tech. My issue was a hydraulic failure. It seems that the two solenoids on each side of the hydraulic pump has some corrosion due to moisture that needed to be cleaned and reseated ,then re-calibrated.I will let you know how it works out

I wanted to update on this post. I have an 2011 C70. Issue Now resolved
Final issue was 2 items.
- Power module failure. I had to replace before full diagnostics. Sensor are in series ( like old Xmas tree lights). If one sensor does not work all the ones behind it will not work.
- Also will need Volvo C70 Hydraulic Pump 36011248. Top now works, but top will fail if I or someone else tries to put top in service mode again. I decided to have mine rebuilt. I chose Top Hydraulics https://www.tophydraulicsinc.com/en/. They will currently rebuild for 700.00 or 500.00 with core exchange .
I agree with others, whomever you take vehicle; to dealer or whomever, make sure the shop has invested in the Volvo diagnostic equipment. Too potential many issues to guess.
