Reduced Engine Performance

Post by natesvolvo »

Hello all. I am new to the forum. I usually read this forum for advice on how to fix my car but it seems i couldn't find a topic to fix my current issue with my 2002 S60 2.4t. I bought the car last year with 139,000 miles and it now has 144,000. I love this car to death but it has always had an issue from day 1 that the guy i bought it from couldn't figure out. Since he hasn't helped i decided to start doing my own work on the car. The issue it has had is a Reduced Engine Performance light. The vehicle will sort of stumble as it starts and sometimes throw the REP light. Not all the time. but after its started the idle is a little rough and the car seems to cough at least once while at idle in park within the first 4 minutes of starting. If the REP light illuminates its gone within 5 minutes. The car will also drive fine except it shakes a little at idle in drive. If i raise the RPM's over 3k while driving, the REP light comes back but only stays on for a few seconds then goes away. I have taken stabs at the issue by replacing: Spark plugs, Coil packs, Fuel Filter, Fuel injectors, MAF sensor and I've even cleaned out the throttle body. I have no clue what could cause this really odd behavior. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

What about getting a laptop with the Volvo diagnostics software, read the codes, it gets you a lot closer. It would have been cheaper.

Well everything i changed needed to be changed. the car was not cared for before i owned it. So in my book it was money well spent. Where does one find the Volvo software online and how much is it?

Yeh we cant have an intelligent conversation without codes.
I bought my version of vida from a vida forum user, installed on a laptop for 180. Add the dice interface from amazon $90.

Nate... where are you in MA? We’ve got a lot of good people who cruise the area who can read codes for you to get you started.
