98 S70 Sunroof delete

Post by crc64error »

So, my poor 98 S70 started having issues with the sunroof. It was out of alignment and after some digging, I found an immature pecan had managed to get in and jam up one of the tracks. This was pushed way back in the sunroof tray. A small metal piece was bent as a result and broken.
To do the repair, I would need to rebuild the whole thing. So I have decided to put the sunroof in storage along with the parts and try and purchase/build/make a sunroof delete panel. I have very little luck finding a premade panel. And I am looking for general advice here in the forums. I also found no information doing a search for a delete option here in the forums.
One question was, did Volvo offer a delete option for sunroofs at the dealer?
If I were to attempt to manufacture a panel, what metal would be recommended?

Just get a new unit from the JY.
Bolt it up, plug it in and move on.

If you want it to last forever,
but you don't care to use it,
just remove the switch - Done!

I agree, if you never want to use the sunroof or don't care (like me), just seal up the broken sunroof and disconnect the switch. If you do want a working sunroof, get a working one from the junkyard. A temporary sunroof delete just doesn't make sense.

Right now, the sunroof will not sit in place, because of the pieces that are broken. I just want to delete and seal it with a piece of sheet metal. Junkyard is not an option down here. Too far away.

I would work with what you have. Fit some blocks of wood on the inside so the sunroof sits correctly and will be fully supported and secure. Once you have it all sorted, seal the hood with some window adhesive, refit the blocks, pull the wiring to the switch and let it be.

Make sure to clean out your sunroof drains before hand - since you are sealing all the way around it should not matter but would be smart.

The job will look better and you will not have any wind noise issues.
