Turbo size for S70 GLT SE

I am in the process of diagnosing a turbo rattle when i get up to the 3k rpm range. Was hoping one of you knowledgeable fellows could tell me what size turbo the GLT models have. I've seen some variation in size and want to make sure I am getting the correct rebuild kit for my turbo. I know that they sell conversion kits that will convert to a 16T, 19T, etc but am not sure if the low pressure engine could take something like that. Thank you in advance for your help!

MDK here... well.. I'm not so sure about size
However, the 2 differences I know about is how they are made the one is 90 degrees and another one is offset about 45 degrees. I've successfully swapped out a few. I d pull one from a junkyard from a V70XC and install it on an S 70 /850. In my experience it was how it hooked up to the exhaust.. hope this helps or at least makes sense.... rolling on

Should be a Mitsubishi TD04. You may be able to get a mirror and find the part number on the turbo. From there it is pretty easy to get all the details. Otherwise do a part number search and then start cross referencing.

I have sourced my turbo rebuild kits from Midwest Turbo in Wisconsin. They sell quality kits - more expensive but gambling on a low quality kit is not worth the $50 savings. They are also very helpful as to what you need - if you call with the turbo part number they will look up exactly what you have and sell you the correct kit.

I would suggest before ordering anything you examine the fins on the turbo looking for damage. If you have any chips (the rattle??) you will need more than a rebuild kit. It could be that the bearings are worn or the unit has excessive coke build up and you have some play. Rattle at higher RPM troubles me as it suggests wobble - which suggests possible fin damage. Only way to tell is to pull the unit and inspect.

If downtime is an issue maybe sourcing a used turbo and rebuilding it would be the smart solution.

Rebuilding the turbo is pretty easy, plenty of write ups. If you are not going to send it out for balancing, make sure you properly mark before removing the fins/shaft.

SuperHerman, i believe you have just given me the needs and information to do this job right. Much appreciated. I'm going to get the part number as you suggested and call Midwest Turbo. Then it's on to inspection of the fins and such. Thank you very much.
