AND ! the seal is flared evenly outward that little bit all around the crank.....should that lip on the crank face be flared in

If I read this correctly, it is in backwards...

I never put anything on the OD of a rubber body seal. That is somewhat like spraying oil on the soles of your non-slip shoes.
The only thing that ever needs to be applied to the lip of the seal is the exact lubricant it seals in. If the shaft the seal rides on is oily then nothing goes on seal.

thanks Jimmy, short of buying a five hundred dollar specialty tool, what do you use to drive your seal in with to keep it perpendicular to the shaft ?

That video is NOT the proper RMS installation tool. Anything short of the proper tool is risk. The OEM Volvo tool is 2 piece.

The tool doesn't seem to be necessary after reading around, but from previous experience with various other seals (I have yet to do the RMS, but I will be doing it before my M56 goes into my R) if you oil the edges of the seal (use engine oil in this case) and carefully press it in by hand and a soft face rubber mallet, socket extension, etc. to drive it home, while making sure the edges don't fold.
I'm sure it's one of those seals that is a pain to press in. That's how the crank seal was on my 740.
