Purchasing a Used XC90

I agree re: saving money buying a used Volvo. But will the lack of a warranty plus the vehicle being 6 years old already with 50,000 miles put us at a great disadvantage mechanically vs. new minivan with full warranty?

This is where the rubber hits the road. Really you are more worried about "new" "warranty" not am I getting a safe well built car. Personally I would pay more and just bite the bullet on a 18 XC90 and have it all if a used car worries you that much.

My experience with Volvo over the last 29 years is other than scheduled maintenance the repairs seem to start after 100K. That's assuming you properly maintain things like oil changes and other scheduled maintenance which even the KIA will require to keep your warranty intact. June

Like I said, if I didn't do my own work for the most part, I would go with the Kia. Unless you are made of money, I wouldn't recommend a Volvo or any European luxury brand to anyone who doesn't DIY. Excepting a couple of VW's, I have only ever owned Mercs and Volvos. That's why I suggested going with an older example ('08-'09) and pocketing the rest for maintenance. End of the day, though, the XC is a more comfortable, safe and definitely more capable option.

It makes a lot of sense for me to own one. Our '03 has 180K mi. and no sign of let-up. I save a ton of money because I can do most of the work. For you it may not make sense. Luxury cars are expensive, period.
