On your "P0012" comment, if the cam timing is off a tooth as you stated, is that going to be a dealer fix? I try to avoid the dealer unless absolutely necessary. I did see a video for replacing what the guy called a "cam timing sensor" which in the video was an easy replacement. It was a plug 'n play type part right on top of the engine.
First step is to check the timing, which can definitely be done in the garage with a few tools and jack and jackstands. This involves jacking up the car, pulling the passenger wheel, removing the plastic over over the timing belt, and checking out the timing market in three places. Look up some videos and check the pdf I linked to up above. If checking the timing is daunting then it needs too go to a shop, fixing the timing follows up on the check and gets more complicated. It is all described in the first link I gave you.
