Hi,

Thanks for the reply Robert.
Just for an extra measure of security. The door latch mechanism is very skimpy and weak.
I dont mind unlocking it, but locking it up back again after gassing up is a pain.
I also think it is less condescending to the gas station attendant when the driver makes the extra effort to get out of the car to 'assist' in the operation, so i dont mind getting out of the vehicle. Yeah in the winter it's cold though :-)
Attendants..? Did you forget to change 19 to 20 in 2018?

Anyhow. Personally I'd much rather someone emptied my tank easily than broke open the door and a locking cap to get to the fuel destroying the car in the process. Or reaching underneath and poking a hole..

Last time I tried to empty the tank of one of my own cars there was a spiral in there so it was impossible to get a tube down anyway.
Hello there,

if that was the only concern, then yes, you're right. But there is also a contamination issue. Someone can put something in the tube such as objects or liquids. They dont have to steal anything to cause damage
That's true. Didn't think of that as a possibility.

I know. It's something we joke about over here ;-)

Though I did actually encounter it in Italy last week. It's the first time ever though.

I'm just wondering how many people I'd have to piss off before someone would break into my fuel door to contaminate my gas? I did just drop about $400 to get mom's busted window fixed.

Hi Robert,

Oh sorry to hear about that window cost. I went through that several years back when someone broke my window with the car parked in my own driveway.
I replaced it with plastic sheet from Home Depot after cutting the proper shape. Wouldnt you know it though, next time i went to inspection they failed that window and the other side too which was also plastic but had passed inspection for some 15 years prior. Lucky we had junk yards around here back then so i went to the dumps and got two windows for 75 dollars (USD). Now those junk yards are gone from this area. That was with my old 1988 Hyundai.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Well, it was my brother's dime. He insisted on paying retail.

I lost a window on my Volvo 262C Bertone. No junkyard luck on that. :x

Hi Robert,

Oh too bad on that window and i think the junk yards seem to be following a pattern of getting rid of older cars. Back when i had my 1988 Hyundai, i found that every junk hard i went to seemed to have no cars that old anymore. I wonder if they are using a cutoff year now where they dont keep cars past a certain age.
