I think software first then part.
Your problems may or may not be related.
At least check for vacuum leaks and if not already done, clean the TB.

A few months ago my 99 V70 would occassinally be hard to start and the engine would sputter and die. Sometimes it would not start at all. The software upgrade had already been done. I had the Throttle Body cleaned by my mechanic and he noticed that there was an intermittant code indicating bad antenna ring. I had that replaced shortly thereafter by the dealer and everything was fine until about 2weeks ago. Sometimes the car is hard to start and occassionally will spit and sputter then die. Then it cranks and runs fine. After about 1 week the symptoms went away until today. Could this be An ETM issue? I don't get the surging like other people report.
