Refurbish/rechrome the t-5r emblem?

Hi all,

I want to rechrome my T-5r badges on the back of my black wagon.

Has anyone ever done this before here?

I fear breaking it when prying off or them falling off after gluing back on.

Is there a standard chrome spray paint that you would use?

I was thinking about getting a small brush and just painting it on but that would lose a lot of chrome shine.

Maybe make a stencil?

Any thoughts would be great.

Has anyone ever used a paint pen for something like this

I would say go at it with a heat gun and some floss, and worst case scenario you could buy new ones off of Ebay/FCP Euro.

Don't know about re-applying it though. 3M has sticky spray that I heard works, but also some sort of double sided tape would work fine too.

Remove it with a thin razor blade,clean the surface with alcool.
Amblems can be wrapped with chrome foil.I wrapped mine.
A lots of patience is needed to trim off excess chrome film on the edges with a scalpel and razor blade.
You will need 3M double sided tape to put it back on.
They will look like a brand new again.

Razor blade is super risky for removal... Heat it then remove with floss, should come off easily.

Professional double sided tape for that use....probably 3M....since it is superb quality.

Why?
I always remove them that way and not a single problem.
Prying them off while using a razor blade at the same time.Just put a razor blade in between tailgate and amblem and cut through the tape.In either way you will need to remove the remaining tape from both sides.
Heat gun is more riskier because you risk to melt down the amblem and paint if you are not handy with it...a second more than it should will ruin it.
Heat gun heats it at 300-600 degrees Celsius...depending on setting.
I'm a professional detailer....window tints,polishing and waxing cars and plastic headlights.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, but for people who aren't professionals such as yourself, bringing a razor blade that close to the paint is a high risk situation:P Much safer to use a piece of floss which has no potential to mess up the paint. Heat gun might not be completely necessary since it's now summer - I removed my badges in freezing temperatures so it was really only to get the glue warmed up so it's slightly malleable.

The badges should be available through volvo. Buy 'em while they still have 'em. The molotov chrome spray will NOT give a satisfying result here. It is nice for tagging and graffiti art, though.

3M also sells a liquid adhesive specifically for installing emblems and trim on car exteriors.
