Volvo v70R 2003 wont start

The valves will be changed! What i am wondering is how this mess can happen? Looking at those pics the valves just touched, normally when this happens you have the complete stamp of the valve on the pistons.
According to you guys, could it be that the car was running like this for sometime? Or is it just bad luck that playing around with some sort of sensor this happened?

Bingo, we found the cause of the mess. Seems like the previous mechanic that worked on the car forgot also some screws...

Yuck. The good news is the pulley will strip, the crankshaft will be ok.

Crank pulley? Not new (not common but we had a few with this issue on non R)

It seems indeed it may be related to a timing belt change where the pulley wasn't tightened properly. However it's the first time I see a damaged head, all other owners were more lucky with just occasional non start condition

Took him literally 3 days of work to identify the issue, strip the head order the parts and assemble it!
