So, just installed factory ect and stat, straight from local Volvo dealer. Cleared code, started right up, cold idle 1100, then dropped to 840. Drove it around the block. So far, so good. Just service light. Started right up, drove to Quik Trip. Started again fine. Drove maybe a mile. Check engine! Flooded but got it started. Drove home. Put tester on - P0117! Live test shows temp at minus 40 degrees while gauge reads normal. Bad pigtail/ connector? Will this also prevent A/C from kicking on? Where can I get a new pigtail? BTW, Thanks to everyone!

Can't answer all questions but this is where I got my connectors: www.davebarton.com. Soldered a nice new arrangement that will last me the life of the car. Pay attention to the proper way to open and close the sealed plug housings, he has illustrations.

Look for this under the Volvo harness parts you will need the pigtail connectors as well. Take a close look at yours, which will likely disintegrate on contact, as mine did, brittle and fragile from heat and age. Build a new one and you will never question your CTS again.
So, this morning I plugged in my 519 reader, turned on the key, cleared the codes, and started the car. Idle speed 840 rpm, temp started out at 75, rose steadily to 190, and gauge was at 3 o'clock. So far, so good. Left reader on so that I could freeze frame reading and headed out. Got about 5 blocks - threw a P0117 again. Reading -44 degrees. Drove home, kept reader plugged in. Wriggled wires at connector and guess what? Temp started bouncing around like crazy. Ordered wires and ends from Davebarton.com. Will update, but car started and ran great otherwise.
It was an AHAH moment! This morning, after mulling over all the comments and sleeping on it, I decided to inspect the connection. Pulled it apart, shoved the wires up through the connector, cleaned the female ends, plugged them on to be absolutely certain they were firmly attached, then slid the connector in place. SUCCESS! PERRFECTION! I will keep my new ends from Dave Barton any way. Thanks everyone!

When you are bored make the new harness. You will never (basically) look back. I taped everything up temporarily but was never comfortable with that as a final solution. Nice work on the diagnostics.
