Yes, it's the other way around, Misha's 96 would/could have been a US 97.

However there are definitely 96 855 T5 cars in the US market, lots of them and I'm certain you can shop for their parts at IPD. Is that a typo Sommerfeldt?

No, that's not a typo.

They certainly still have parts that fit the T5, but the T5 isn't listed for '96.

And might I chime in that my '96 T5 does NOT have chipped keys, which is also apparently "EVERY" Volvo from '96 onwards.

On on your side of the pond, European laws started requiring chipped keys in the 90s. AME Volvos did not get chipped keys until '99. I have had keys made for my AME '97 960 and AME '98 C70, no key programing required.

@ Sommerfeldt: A 96 turbo is a T5, they are the same thing, I'm not sure what bothers you about IPD's listing. Whereas in 97 you can't just say "turbo" because you have to distinguish between the LPT (GLT) and HPT (T5). Or is it fundamentally a badging thing or something that bothers you?

@Rick: I think you missed the point, Sommerfeldt was quoting misha not making a claim.

@misha: my bad, I didn't look up your car's info, I was just agreeing that models were released earlier in Europe, sometimes in the previous year, than they were in the US market. Not the other way around as suggested by another member.

@erik - The difference is that while the car may be the same, there aren't 1996 850 T5's in the US. There are 850 Turbos. While here, there are no 1996 850 Turbos - there are 1996 850 T5's. It's definitely a badging thing, but also a way to illustrate that there are actual differences in the US/EUR year vs model specifics, which, it seems to me, has been overlooked through this whole discussion.

@ Rick - none of my 850s have had chipped keys. Including the '96.

Thank you - I have tried to make this point a few times in the disucssion, and I agree it is likely at the root of discrepancies, including why many of the "book" sources cited appear wrong when blindly applied.

It appears for the US model 95 NA auto, Motronic 4.3 prevails (is the rule?), still no shred of concrete evidence to the contrary. At least the IPD site lists Jetronic as a possibility for the 95 NA, but we haven't seen any actual US vehicles that shipped that way.
