Changed dash, now radio is blowing fuses

Post by Arwing »

96 850R. I just had the dash apart to change out the evaporator. After reconnecting everything, the radio keeps burning through the number 7 fuse right away.

Interestingly it only happens when I try to connect the amp. As far as I can tell the wiring is correct but right now I'm having to bypass the amp to use the radio.

I had trouble with the insulation on the wiring harness getting rubbed away and causing a short where it goes across the heat sink on the amp. The edges on the heat sink fins are really sharp.

I ended up replacing the amp and wiring together with that off my other 850 and it fixed the problem.

The wiring seamed to be intact. I'm still not sure where the problem was.
