so!!! Having read so many posts about people struggling with obd2 code p0089 "fuel pressure regulator 1" I wanted to post about my experience. In my 05 v70 I had this code and could not get it to go away, even after replacing the fuel pressure sensor and resetting the light countless times. It always came back. I had been having issues with cruise control not working, rough shifting and car starting without the clutch depressed. I already knew I needed a new clutch position sensor (which, by the way is the easiest part I've ever installed!) ... I replaced it this evening and I cant even begin to tell you the world of difference it has made for me! Car drives smoother, faster, all around better. And it has cured my p0089 engine code! I guess if the car thought the clutch was always depressed when it wasn't, than that could mess with fuel pressure, I guess??? Any how, if you're having any sort of issue with fuel pressure engine code and your car is a manual, replace the clutch position sensor!

Welcome Emma! That’s a strange orientation of the stars that a clutch switch fixed a fuel pressure problem. I’m guessing that problem is still lurking in the woods.

I had trouble on my 2005 with the pump electronic module or PEM. These get dirty and then start rough running.

It’s an expensive part new but findable used a lot cheaper. I have a spare working one for diagnostic purposes, PM me

Here's the thing, I forgot to mention that I wasn't actually having fuel pressure issues! My car ran great, it was just throwing the code at me. No stalling, no sputtering or loss of power like others describe. I've been monitoring the fuel pressure with my OBD2 reader and it was perfect even with the CEL on. But now with the new CPS it runs even better :) I think I got lucky on this one but I am going to keep my eye on it for sure. I was planning on looking at the PEM because I know the deteriorate. Thanks!!

That’s a real gem of troubleshooting info.

The clutch switch is integrated into the cruise, so that the engine doesn’t race when you declutch. Starting with clutch engaged is telling that the switch is dead, though.

If you have a good code reader that can monitor fuel pressure you’ve done well. One quirk...Volvo sensors report absolute pressure with respect to vacuum, so the correct fuel pressure valve is something like 480 kPa

By analogy, if your tires say 32 psi, a Volvo sensor would report 46 psi, or 32 psi plus atmospheric pressure of 14 psi
