Mechanic advises engine on '99 S70, FWD, Base, Auto, has seized. There is oil in the crankcase. He hasn't had time to fully diagnose, nor have I.
Car has approx. 154 K miles. It is a good candidate for an engine swap, but I don't have the time to do it.
I say good candidate because:. 1). Xemodex throttle body; 2) rebuilt steering rack, 3) Koni FSD suspension (really nice ride), 4) clean, straight rust free body, 5) all coil packs replaced, 6) center speaker dash, under seat amp and SC-901 head unit with wiring harness and 3 CD magazine.
It would make a nice daily driver if you have the time to do a swap. Alternatively, I may sell parts, but that's a less desirable option. If I go that route, I will keep the suspension.

Seems like there are always "bastards" waiting to be saved...
Is it possible to drop a 98 S70 engine in? (Our car could certainly use a newer/nicer body!) Is it just a swap of computers, installation of throttle cable, and other stuff? Or is it completely impossible?

It should be possible, if they are both NA or both turbo. AME S70s, both years used the B5254T & B5234T3 for turbo charged cars. "98 NA used the B5254FS, '99 used the B5254S.

B5234FS? I think the NA uses B5244FS/B5244S. NA cars are 2.4 liter.
If it's a '99 it shouldn't have VVT, so there is no need to worry about that. ETM/intake manifold will swap right over, among other things. You should be able to just "delete" the distributor and put the black cap in the back of the cam. It should be swappable.
I'd definitely swap over the M56 too! Very direct swap on FWD cars. I had the bright idea to swap an AWD...
Hopefully somebody buys this car and fixes it up, NAs aren't all destined for scrap/part out just because they're missing a turbo!

I believe MY 2000 used the B5244S once the VVT was added, but those seem to be correct.

The !999 base I parted out had exhaust CVVT, so this one might be CVVT too.
