No, which I hope its not internal. I'm checking for any exhaust leaks by the turbo, and inspecting the belts as well.

I hope so too. I should have given more backstory, as I'd be rather surprised if yours does indeed have rod knock especially since the oil level is normal and it seems there weren't really any symptoms beforehand. Just odd that it sounds similar. My car ended up about 3L low on oil (unexpectedly burned over a regular oil interval) and began with what sounded like lifter tick, which turned into a knock.

I had rod knock on my original 2001 T5 engine and I ran it until the rod smashed out through the block-no oil pressure lights at all. I hope it isn't a rod or main bearing

Update: So I left it running for about 15 minutes, and afterwards, that knocking sound is not heard anymore. Could it be exhaust related that it expands possibly at the exhaust manifold? I've started though having a plan b, c and d. Plan b, buy a used engine. Plan c, have the engine rebuilt or plan d, do it myself, and that would entail cams/ported head, and may get out of hand. I used to road race in 85 Corolla GTS and a 02 SER Spec-V, both vehicles fully built, engine and suspension. The Wagon is my next 'road wagon', at Willow Springs.

Yes it is possible. Build a smoke machine, blow smoke up it's waste pipe, see where the smoke comes out.

Update: So that knocking has definitely gone once its warmed up and running. I've already went ahead to purchase an exhaust manifold gasket along with a V70R manifold...Found a couple under 120.00 so I'm purchasing one and I already catalogued cams, piston, block for my stage 3. Here's the vid:

I have heard of some owners complaining of cracked exhaust manifolds. Good luck!

Should have added, you should also check the flex down pipe as they also break with age.
