I am a new Volvo owner so I am learning much as I go along. Currently; When starting when cold car runs rough, when engine is warm it smooths out nicely. When driving and I put a load on engine, accelerating, I hear a high pitch pinging sound, when I let off of throttle it seems to go away. When I turn car off I hear a buzzing noise from the passenger side of engine.

I have pulled codes and a few indicate a possible vacuum leak.??

any ideas please.

I purchased vehicle used with a failed engine due to overheating, coolant leak not take care of. I had an engine installed with many new parts, hoses, new oil trap, etc. Care has 145000 miles. this runs great and I love it.

Yesterday we performed a smoke test. The test revealed a hole in the plastic tube on top of the engine. Replaced the tube. :)

Performed another smoke test. Lots of smoke coming out of oil filler cap. Need to check on that today. Have not run codes today yet.

ecm 6140 -- "ECM-6140 -- Camshaft control exhaust -- Slow"
ecm 3210 -- "ECM-3210 -- Misfire cylinder 1, start-up -- Start-up"
ecm 3100 -- ECM-3100 -- Misfire, at least one cylinder -- Start-up"
bcm 0139 --"BCM-0139 Pre-pressure valve power brake booster Signal outside its permitted range"
ecm 120c --"ECM-120C -- Air mass -- Signal too high"
ecm 120d -- ECM-120D -- Air mass -- Signal too low"
ecm 121b --"ECM-121D -- Mass air flow sensor -- Signal too low"

It looks like you have a vacuum leak as you suspect. You need to eliminate all of these leaks and then clear and run VIDA again. The oil cap has a gasket that can go bad. How is your PCV system? Check the small hoses on Bank 2 turbo in the back driver side. Their will by a T pipe and the two smaller hoses here can go bad. The longer hose goes to the solenoid by the air filter.

Using a smoke machine is an excellent approach. I am going to let this sit until you get your leaks under control. The BCM-0139 code is worrisome though, but maybe it is related.

Thank you very much.

Did another smoke test. Wanted to check car after repairing the located leak.

Note:
Car does not run rough at early morning start up. Check engine light went off and vehicle appears to be running smoother.

Question though?

When running smoke test, smoke is put in the intake tube at the air filter. I am getting alot of smoke comming out of the oil filler tube on top of the engine.

I did the smoke test upon seeing much oil coming out of the oil filler tube and dip stick tube when running.

I question if I should even be getting oil coming out of these? and if I should even be getting smoke comming out of the oil filler tube?

What pressure are you using? It has to be pretty low. The smoke will find the only way out - if you are using too much pressure it may push back what usually is a "seal".

Have you checked your PCV system, at 145k miles it could be the issue. Did you try the "glove test" to check your negative vacuum?

Another potential problem could be a blocked catalytic converter, but I would put this at the end of the "to check" list.

I will check the pressure and let you know. Good thing to check.

Oil has coming out of the oil filler tube when driving and came out of the dip stick tube when I deliberately left it not all the way in; (just checking to see if oil came out of tube).

"Glove Test" to test negative vacuum? Please explain.

The PCV valve is new.

The "glove test" refers to a simplistic method of validating that vacuum (suction) is present at the oil dipstick and/or oil fill hole when engine is running and also when engine is revved (no need to go to redline, up to 2k range is fine I think). You'll find lots of information if you do a search for "volvo pcv test". Presence of positive pressure at either interface may be indicative of a clogged or compromised PCV system. Since you refer to the "PCV valve" as being new, if you have positive pressure I'm wondering if a full service to include cleaning of all the paths had been performed and all hoses are whole and in their proper locations.

Glove test showed good vacuum even at idle it had good vacuum. Thank you

So far I am down to only having the brake assist code now. I looked this up on many sites and it indicates the sensor under the right front seat. I went to the salvage yard and found only one still in the car, all others had already been removed. This one was quite obviously failed; shorting was quite visible. I will go to another yard where they just got in an XC90 this week and remove it if it is still there.
