play in brake pedal 98 v70 auto 190k

Hello ,my brake pedal has travel before it engages the brakes , this is also noted with the engine off. There is also side to side play.
New pads , rotors all around and a good bleed and a check of the vacuum line under the airbox. Seems to be more of a physical problem with a worn pedal at the pivot point or maybe further up. I had an Saab where there was a fix involving drilling out the pedal and using a bit of copper tubing to act as a bushing. The braking is ok ,not spongy or with a dropping pedal but would feel much better without the play.
Anyone else notice this ? Thanks , frisky
