What is this hose connected to ?

Post by Ajaga08 »

Hi group. Im new here, this is my very first post
I have a 1998 Volvo S70. 2.4L Turbocharged and would like to know Where this mysterious hose supposed to be connected.
When I pulled in air from the hose, I discovered coolant fluid came out of it.
The hose is located on the passenger side from lower end of the engine close to the front fender(See Pictures).
I searched endlessly trying to find where it goes, all to no avail.
Can anyone help this poor guy ?

Looks like the breather hose for the windshield washer bottle. It goes no where. Just prevents the bottle from causing a vacuum so is open to air as it should be. It should clip onto either the missing windshield washer filler tube that snaps into the semi-circular rind in the middle of the picture or onto a clip on the front of the casing for the ECU.

For the P0172, check the little black hose on the passenger side of the intake manifold, that connects to a metal nipple. The hose elbow may be crumbling or disconnected.

Yep...it's breather hose for windshield washer reservoir.
It should have it's clip at the inner fender.

Correct on washer breather hose. Can even see the metal clip in picture, look at yellow sticker and move left, follow the fender ridge down about two inches toward front of car.

UPDATE: Had the hose tucked away by the fender but now I have P0455. I've read many posts suggesting replacent of Gas cap, Purge valve etc. All checked but Ill like to know If the Two Holes( pointed arrows in the picture) may also contribute to the error code P0455. The holes are located at the front of the Rear Tire on driver saide. Please enlighten.

Those 2 holes are just that and no more, The larger one should probably have a plastic bung in it.

P0455 is an emissions fault. You are looking for split or broken pipes in the emissions system. Yours being a 98 it is most likely the hoses on the carbon canister under the LH front fender just forward of the front tire.
