1999 XC70 Crank no start,no fuel injection, cloned ECU ECM to fix!

Post by loosenut »

Hoping someone has seen this. Note...NOT THE ANTENNA RING.
my 99 v70xc cranks acts like it wants to start only it won't start.
It did/does at one point run for 10 seconds or so.
I'm leaning toward an ECU.
Along with this no start action I am able to get two codes...
IMM 321 and CI 141....
I switched transponder ring with my other car and the one in question ran the other car. So it's good.
I can't find anything on the CI 141...12 plus out signal short...
Does anyone know about this code? Maybe these two together mean I'm.......

The immobilized on a 99 works like this

If you don’t satisfy the immob , the car will start, run for a second or two, then stall.

Subsequent start attempts will not fire, I believe by inhibition of ignition circuit.

If it ran for 10 seconds, you have more problems.

I don’t recognize the code format you reported. If it’s coming from a code reader, they might not map correctly from the actual codes.

A generic reader will give Pxxxx format, VIDA or full reader will report ECM-xxxx codes

What’s the make and model of code reader?

Matco
Maximus.
CI 141 refers to 12 plus signal short to ground.
Where it is referring to or what or if it they are refering to a control mod...I don't know as of yet. When I get to the shop i may be able to find this info.
You have shed a little light on my subject though. Will keep everyone posted..

sorry. i read wrong i am a bit backwards as i read things sometimes
ci 141 12 pulse not plus pulse signal short to ground...sorry and i have to wait till i get home tonight to double check that is even correct.
and abscate...i will go in obd2 mode tonight and see what i get that way.
i think 12 pulse has to do with the alternator circuit i think although im not sure it it even relates to volvo....

Sorry for the delay...my other Volvo is resting in pieces....LOL brakes went out no one was hurt..

So with OBD2 I cannot get ANY codes...only when I'm in dealer mode and its a constant umm 321...I changed the key ring and the IMM unit to no avail....
I'm in touch with Lucky at ARD about cloning my ecm. The price is VERY RESONABLE...
Funny thing is when I try to find a IMM 321 diagnostic procedure on Alldata...there seems to be none just clean the terminals replace terminals..

If anyone can shed some light on this I'm getting ready to tow it to the shop i work at .

Thanks in advance and sry I have no fix to offer yet.

So no crank no start. Car will run on starting fluid. Not the antenna ring. I changed it with a known good one and they each operated respectfully...code IMM 321 comes while cranking without fail after erasing...ECU will not set obd codes at all.
There is no pulse to the injectors..scanning the IMM it's state is normal. Relay one and two is yes. Two keys recognized. That tells me the IMM is there and doing its job.
So I am missing the signal from the ECU.
When the car is cranked in the first two seconds the IMM checks the wire to the ECU for short to ground AND or open circuit.
So my code IMM 321 is no communication from the ECU

Tomorrow I will have my ECU back from ARD. And see if I was correct in my Diag...very reasonable price also..although I do suggest having them over night it back to you. I have been waiting for six days now....😬

Will update again tomorrow.

Following this closely

It’s the first instance I’ve read where an immob fault inhibits fuel injection but not spark? That doesn’t sound right.

Did you check for 12 V at all the fuel injectors hot side?

Yes had power. No pulse.
So...gor the ECU back from ARD. Hooked it up and she fired up. Runs great..
Turns out the ECU was bad...
