'98 Volvo V70 rear hatch wont open

'98 Volvo V70 rear hatch wont open

My electronic unlock and lock still work but my handle isnt workingm I think the reason it doesn't open is I heard that If you close the trunk too hard, the mechanism falls apart. Theres a handle inside the door that I can use to open it but I dont know what to do. Not sure how to remove the panel without breaking it.

You remove the trim pieces then pop the plastic back off (easiest to do with the lid open.)

The clips will break, IPD makes a nice repair kit that will fix that.
